Petition :
Petition asking the prohibition of the use of the horse the courses of the bullfights
During bull-fighting and preliminary "training" , the horses share the terrible situation of the bulls. Horse is in effect the other animal that gets the pain from the bloody torture practice called corrida, which is punished by the law almost everywhere in the world. The undersigned, responsible citizens who are constantly struggling to obtain the definitive abolition of bull-fighting (corrida), cannot admit that at the XXIst century horse as much a bulls, may be molested, wounded or killed because of the greed and of for the entertainment of a minority.
As a consequence, and until bull-fighting (corrida) is abolished, we demand that the use of horses should be forbidden in the arenas during public or private bull-fighting.

Help us opposing bull-fights in Provence, France
The summer 2002, brand new arenas were built in Istres. Located in the heart of Provence, this city aims to organise more and more bull-fights in order to attract numerous tourists. A French organisation against bull-fights, The F.L.A.C (Fédération de Liaisons Anti-Corrida), is trying to mobilise the local, national and world-wide public opinion about the cruelty of such activities. Today, they ask PETA's members to write to Istres' officials in order to express their opposition as well as their willingness to boycott Istres as a tourist place so long as blood will be shed in this town. (read more)

A 'traditional' bull-fight is the torture of six bulls, murdered one after the other. It isn't the struggle of a single man against a 'wild beast', but a malicious trap prepared by a whole team which leads to a weakened animal's death.
The aficionados would like to bring this codified torture to the heights of Art and Culture, with the help of the law, the politicians and the media. But we are not blind ; it's only a question of money.
Some people seem to feel more concerned by what's in their purse than by real suffering. We hope to make them react by informing them that many people do not like bull-fights around the world, and that these people are determined to avoid spending money in a town where one keeps on killing bulls after inflicting them terrible injuries.

You can make a difference :
Please send a letter (see the model underneath) to the mayor of Istres to the postal box of our association's committee in Marseille :
FLAC, Comité Marseille/Bouches du Rhône
BP 43
13908 Marseille Cedex 20, FRANCE

All the letters will then be given personally to the mayor, together with petitions during a formal meeting.
Thank you very much, and, as we say here in France : 'L'union fait la force !' (Strength through unity)

Dear Sir ,

I want to let you know that I think that bull-fighting is utterly cruel and violent. Knowing that you organise bull-fights in your town, I commit myself not to visit it as long as bulls' blood is shed in Istres' arenas. Indeed, I refuse the idea that the money I spend as a tourist should go to the people who are responsible for such massacres.
Hoping to be able to come and enjoy the sunshine in a cruelty-free Istres in the future.

Communiqué from the CAC 83.

We have the great pleasure to inform you that, following a deliberation of the Town Hall council of December 10, 2004 and thanks to the action of the CAC 83,

THE TOWN OF MOUANS-SARTOUX
(Alpes-Maritimes, in France)
has declared iself an
anti-bull-fighting and animal friendly town.

It's a capital event in the history of our common struggle: at last, France moves in the direction shown by Spanish and Catalonia Towns.
Mouans-Sartoux (around 10000 inhabitants) was already well-knonw by its ecological, humanist, and humanitarian positions: for instance, the town managed after 10 years efforts to reopen a railway instead of a new autoroute.
Mouans-Sartoux is situated in the vicinity of Cannes, between Mougins and Grasse for those who know the area.
There are no bull-fighting in this region, which explains the suprise of the Conseil Municipal when the topic was presented, and this also explains that many voters didn't express any opinion at all (this should also encourage us to think about our approach to the elected and political people.)
The question was put among other "miscellaneous questions", then among the "general affairs". The Vote was public.

NB: Only two animal-torture amateurs came out with the usual arguments "culture", slaughtering of cattle, etc...
For : 15 / Against: 2 / Abstentions : 10

Please do not hesitate to congratulate this first French anti-corrida town!

Discontent !
Radio Trafic

Dear Madam or Sir:

Please allow me first to congratulate you on the quality of your radio programme which not only eases and comforts the drivers by keeping them informed on the current state of traffic on various main roads, but that also accompanies and assists them like an alert co-pilot.
Secondly, allow me to attract your attention on the fact that an advertisement in favour of bull-fights is regularly on air in your programme and that this does tarnish Radio-traffic's image. Indeed, you are thereby contributing to promoting what is little compatible with assistance, as you know that Spanish bull-fights are of a rare violence. Supporting and approving a practice widely contested by the huge majority of sensible people does not bring forward a larger audience.
Very much on the contrary so.
As far as I am concerned, I have hear numerous people say so. Consequently, it would be opportune for you not to broadcast this kind of messages any more.
Hoping that you will be able to take these lines into consideration, I remain

With kind regards

Feria in Fenouillet 2006

The daily or weekly press is not picky with advertisement offers from the organisers of seasonal massacres. The "Nouvel Observateur" had published in its regional edition (Toulouse and more) pages of publicity displaying that the group Carrere is a partner (promotor) of this feria .
I called my regional editor in Paris. My interlocutor answered that this partnership was a well-planned commercial computation, because the feria attracts many people, that he himself at first disliked bull-fights and that having witnessed one of them, he had been seduced by the vibes, the costumes, the music (!!!) … that we were a minority, etc.
If you could please explain to him or to whoever is concerned that this commercial plan is simultaneously dishonourable and not that profitable, it would be nice!

Guy Carlier: France Inter/7,55a.m. Monday, November 3rd 2006
The programme 7 to 9.30a.m. presented by Nicolas Demorand).
Dear Guy Carlier,

Your minutes on the air on Monday, November 6th are and will remain for us one of the most exceptional moments in our very difficult struggle against bullfights, an abject form of violence and quite unwarranted.

There is now no doubt that the role played by courageous people who dare at last to speak out openly on the air, and at prime time, saying that "they are against, completely against bullfights" is a sure sign that times are changing. And that the shameful media propaganda in favour of an ignoble practice may soon come to an end.

We are well aware to what extent violence wreaks havoc on a world-wide scale every day. But this violence is at least noticed and condemned.

On the contrary, bullfighting remains the very paragon of virtue, especially in certain neighbourhoods of Arles where poor kids manipulated by villains are led to believe that by becoming torturers they will gain honor and fame.

We know for our part that our "civilized societies" will not achieve social integration for the children of disadvantaged areas by opening up bullfighting schools.

But bullfight promoters are eagerly searching for new spectators and trying by all means to recruit the young, via the school system where unfortunately they are received with open arms.

But as the wind turns, change come about. Those who have encouraged, in one way or another, this ignominy will finally be seen as individuals not to be associated with.

May you, dear Guy Carlier, pursue for a long time to come your morning chronicals. They sometimes make us smile, sometimes laugh, but at times also cry at how immense human folly is.

We are thus counting on you to make the point, as well as possible.

Sending you our best anti-bullfight greetings,

For the FLAC Josyane Querelle, President.
