| NIMES 2002 :
When the figures begin to surface.
Let's start with the beginning.
Féria de Pentecôte (May, 14th-20th, 2002) : 9 corridas (bull torture sessions), 92 000 spectators (91324 exactly, but let's not be picky). Which means hardly more than 10 000 spectators per session, in arenas that can accomodate 18 000!
In addition, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the most famous Feria, it's not that much after all!
It also means: 3,1 M Euros income for 2,3 M Euros spent.
Let's accept that approach.
But what's behind this ?
Regarding the Férias de Primavera (spring or February), and the "Ascension" (may Feria), the result was a loss:
- Primavera: 127412 euros loss
- Ascension: 116037 euros loss
That's a lot!
Let's add the "negligible" 150000 Euros "indemnity" paid by the Town - on tax payers'money - to the "Simon Casas Productions" Company, to compensate for the losses generated by the cancellation of the Fall Féria because of the flood !
The total amount begins to taste a little bitter!
In spite of this, the Company mentionnned hereabove, which manages the Nîmes arenas, announces a profit after tax of 130302 euros for the year 2002, with a total declared turnover of 507986 euros.
And this would be by far the most profitable event!
The only question is, profitable FOR WHOM ?
Finally, where are the MILLIONS of spectators, that they keep mentionning to promote animal torture, isn't it a simple trick making a deliberate confusion between the Town visitors and the arenas spectators ?
Lies and cheating seem to be the rule on this subject.
Let's stay tuned…

Carcasses of Bulls killed during corridas.
Bought 50 € each, by the Nîmes slaughter-house (2004 list price), or 300 € per corrida, or 750 € if the organisater brings the carcasses himself to the slaughter-house!
Or else, it could go directly to the equarissor with 1500 € invoiced to the organiser.
Fiestas camperas: 100 € per carcass (except on evenings or week-ends: 50 € / carcass).
The average weight of a carcass is estimated to be 250 kg, which means 0,20 to 0,40 € per kg. But this meat is sold at butcher's for 11 € / kg! What a nice profit!
As a consequence, it would seem that the training of young "apprentice-killers" get rare because organisers were counting ont the selling of the carcasses to balance their accounts.
That's at least a source of satisfaction!
They should get in phase with each other !
Worry for the pro-procorrida lobby : are the seats of the arenas going to be emptied ? We shall see!
In "La Provence" (Nov, 29, 2003) the bull-torture journalist Christophe Chay displays a triumphant title : " Record figure of 89 corridas organised"
(Note of the redactor: in France obviously)
Let's add to this figure the 45 novilladas (corridas with horses, bulls aged of 3 years or less).
Let's also add the corridas with horse (18), the novilladas without picador, the "bull festivals", the becerradas, the so-called "charity"- corridas. The weekly journal "La Semaine de Nîmes" (n° 242, dec. 4, 2003) says that there were a total of 175 bull-fighting shows of all kinds.
Let's not forget the "Fêtes Champêtres" (country parties), semi-private "training places", the private ones, the so called "schools" of animal torture, and we come to approximately 175 X 6(*) animals (veals, young bulls, bulls, not to include horses!)= 1050 tortured animals.
For the moment...
(*) 6 being the number of tortured and killed animals during a bull-torture session (corrida).
They don't get in phase with each other...
Midi Libre (Dec 1st, 2003).
Jacques Durand, bull-torture journalist at "Libération", thinks that there are too many corridas and adds: "Therefore, we should see a rapid degradation... "
They don't get in phase with each other...
"La Semaine de Nîmes" (4 of décember 2003)
This journal writes that the public is bigger every year and that the subscriptions to the arenas are constantly increasing.
Our comments:
We have always said that corrida will kill corrida.
